Job Description

Friarsgate-Ballentine Animal Hospital is seeking an experienced Veterinary Assistant to join our team and support exceptional experiences for our clients and patients across all aspects of hospital care.

This is an excellent opportunity for a versatile assistant who enjoys variety in their day and wants to continue utilizing and developing a well-rounded skillset across surgical support, outpatient care, and patient handling. In this position, you will take an active role in:
  • Splitting time between exam room, outpatient, and surgical caseload support
  • Assisting veterinarians during exams, treatments, and surgical procedures, including patient prep, setup, and recovery
  • Performing radiology, phlebotomy, SQ injections, and laboratory sample collection
  • Providing safe, gentle patient handling and restraint during outpatient and procedural care
  • Monitoring inpatient care and supporting patient recovery as directed by the veterinary team
  • Maintaining accurate medical records and treatment documentation
  • Reviewing treatment plans and discharge instructions with clients clearly and compassionately
  • Maintaining clean, organized, and fully prepared exam rooms, treatment areas, and procedural spaces

Schedule and compensation:
  • Compensation: $16.00-$18.00 per hour, for each hour worked
  • This is a full-time position, with a 4 x 10 schedule, Monday-Friday, with 1-2 weekend treatment shifts per month. No on-call requirements

Minimum qualifications and skill set:
  • 1+ years of veterinary assistant or related clinical experience required
    • Training considered for the right candidate
  • Proficiency in the following skills:
    • Radiology
    • Surgical setup and assisting
    • Phlebotomy and SQ injections
    • Laboratory sample collection
    • Inpatient care and monitoring
    • Safe animal handling and restraint for dogs and cats of varying sizes and temperaments
    • Accurate medical record keeping and treatment documentation
    • Compassionate, professional communication with clients and team members
    • Ability to prioritize and multitask in a fast-paced environment
    • Dependable attendance and strong work ethic
    • Physical ability to stand, bend, lift, and restrain patients safely throughout the workday
